Palm Sunday
Palm Sunday marks the beginning of the holiest season of the liturgical year. Jesus triumphantly enters Jerusalem to the cheers of the crowd who hail Him as a King â€" “Lo, your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey” (Zech 9:9). In a matter of days those cheers become jeers as the crowds turned on our Lord and demand that He be crucified. At the Last Supper Jesus gave to us the gift of the Eucharist as an everlasting memorial of His suffering, death, and resurrection, and the priesthood to continue His mission. He suffered greatly, and like a lamb, was led to the slaughter and lovingly gave His life for our eternal salvation. On the third day His tomb was empty because He had risen and triumphed over sin and death. His victory has become our victory. Through baptism we share in His death and resurrection and are given new life. What an incredible week! I invite you to fully enter into the sacred liturgies of Holy Week and allow them to draw you into the great Paschal Mystery. May we all be transformed by what we celebrate and grow in holiness as we unite ourselves to Christ who suffered, died, and rose from the dead for us all. Praise be to you, Lord Jesus Christ!
