33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
The Readings for the 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time remind us that what we see around us will not last forever. In both the Nicene and Apostles Creed, we read that Jesus will come again “to judge the living and the dead”. This is what the Gospel of St. Mark speaks about. The First Reading from Daniel also speaks of “end times” with reference to St. Michael the Archangel and the resurrection of the dead. The Readings remind us that we need not fear the end. God protects us from evil and gives us the means of our sanctification (Second Reading from Hebrews). If we live lives rooted in Christ, then He will welcome us into His Kingdom where “those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever” (Daniel).
