Thirty-First Sunday of Ordinary Time
In the Gospel for the Thirty-First Sunday of Ordinary Time, a scribe asks Jesus, “Which commandment is first of all?” Jesus responds, “Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love your God with all your heart, and with all of your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.” He then offers the second commandment, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” Jesus links these two commandments because they both require great love. How can we live this great love? St. Thérèse of Lisieux is best known for her “little way.” It was the way of love that had the power to transform every thought and action. In her autobiography, Story of a Soul, she states, “O Jesus, my love, at last I have found my vocation. My vocation is love!” This simple saint was able to put into practice what Jesus commands in the Gospel. St. Thérèse shows us the power of love!
