Twenty-Third Sunday of Ordinary Time

At this current moment in the life of the Church, the Readings for the Twenty-Third Sunday of Ordinary Time offer some significant insights. In the First Reading the Prophet Isaiah speaks of incredible things that involve significant healing. These words offer great hope. In the Gospel we see Jesus healing a deaf man who also had a speech impediment. The crowds marvelled at what they had witnessed and “zealously” proclaimed what Jesus had done for the man. During difficult times we need to turn to the Lord who brings healing and hope. We cannot be deaf to the words of the gentle shepherd who brings healing to the broken and down hearted. He also calls His Church to renewal in faith and holiness. We must all work together to remove the impediments that limit our ability to be authentic witnesses of Jesus to the world. As Isaiah states, “Be strong, do not fear”.
