Reflection for the Fifth Sunday of Lent

The Gospel of the Fifth Sunday of Lent (John 12:20-33) begins with a group of Greeks asking Philip; “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” This is still a valid statement today as many desire to see the Lord. Those called to Holy Orders, especially priests, are called to be another Christ. So as priests and deacons people should expect to see Christ in us. When they come to us they should experience the love and mercy of our Lord. All the baptized who are members of the Mystical Body of Christ should also make Jesus present in the world. We are all able to do this through the power of the Holy Spirit. As St. Paul states in the Second Reading, “Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Him”. We all belong to Him and help to make Him present in the World. May the world always see Jesus in us! Reverend Gerard Bergie, D.D.
