Reflection for the Fourth Sunday of Lent

The Gospel of the Fourth Sunday of Lent (Jn 3:14-21) and the Gospel for the 2nd scrutiny (Jn 9:1-41) presents us with light, darkness, blindness, and sight. Jesus speaks about people who “loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil”. We know that there are people today who continue to love the darkness and try to draw others into the shadows. They try to obscure the truth. Our response to this situation is to act like Jesus. We read in the Gospel that He came “not to condemn the world”. We too should not condemn those who love the darkness. Our call is to lead them to the light of Truth. Jesus is the Light of the World, and he came to save all people. As the Gospel reminds us, He was lifted up on the cross so that we might be saved and receive eternal life. Let us all be en “light” ened and look to the cross as our hope. For in this sign we will conquer all darkness and those who are spiritually blind will receive new sight.
