This Sunday’s Gospel (John 15:9-17) speaks of an incredible gift that is offered to us â€" friendship with God, “I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father.â€� Our God who is Perfection, Beauty, Love and Truth, the One who created all things and holds all in existence chooses to be a friend with us. We who are so insignificant are reminded of our infinite value in God’s eyes. He gave His life for us. All that is asked in return is that we know and do God’s will. This is our act of love for God. When we strive to do God’s will and keep His commandments we experience true joy. This joy motivates us to love and serve others and in doing so we bear much fruit. May God’s friendship motivate us to do great things.
