Extraordinary Missionary Month initiated by Pope Francis
The Feast of St. Thérèse of Lisieux (October 1) marked the beginning of an Extraordinary Missionary Month that was initiated by Pope Francis.
Our Holy Father wants us to focus on the fact that we are called to be a missionary Church. He said that this focus on mission “should jolt us and motivate us to be active in doing good.” Pope Francis wants us to be witnesses to Christ.
In his homily for the opening of this Extraordinary Month, he stated, “We sin against mission when we think of ourselves as victims, that no one loves or understands us, when we yield to resignation and believe everything is going from bad to worse in the world and in the Church.”
A missionary Church, “does not seek safe oases to dwell in peace, but longs to be salt of the earth and a leaven in the world. A missionary Church is always on the go!” Let us remind our people of this missionary spirit.
